Arnold Eaves

2018 Inductee

Mr. Arnold William Eaves was a member of the Chattanooga Valley High School class of 1941.

Mr. Eaves is, perhaps, best remembered as the “Voice of the Eagles” for Chattanooga Valley and then as the legendary “Voice of the Panthers.”

While his children attended Chattanooga Valley High School from 1950-1977, he was an avid parent supporter, serving as PTA president and Band Booster president and on numerous ad hoc committees to further the school's programs. He joined with other parents and faculty members to erect the first bleachers at the Chattanooga Valley football field and, later, replace them with larger seating.

His wider community involvement with Walker County education included service on the Walker County School Board, including one term as board chairman. Additionally, he was a strong advocate for vocational training and was instrumental in developing strong vocational programs in Walker County schools.

After his tenure on the school board, and after some initial concerns, he became an earnest supporter of the decision to consolidate Rossville High School and Chattanooga Valley High School, even running for and winning a new term on the school board in order to ensure that proper athletic facilities would be part of the new Ridgeland High School from day one.

His contribution to Walker County education and Ridgeland High School did not end when his children completed their educations at Chattanooga Valley. Without hesitation, he continued working in the sound booth at Chattanooga Valley and Ridgeland. His work with the wider education community in Walker County also showed his commitment to students in all phases of the school system beyond his beloved athletic programs.
