James Johnson Jr. is a member of the Ridgeland High School Class of 1997.  James participated in basketball and track & field all four years in high school.  He was named to the All-Region First Team in basketball in 1996, his junior year, and 1997, his senior year.   During his senior year, he was named North Georgia Player of the Year in basketball and earned All-State honorable mention. He averaged 21 points per game his senior year and scored over 1,000 points in his high school career.  In 1997, his senior year, he put up a career-high of 40 points against Ringgold.  Not only did he dominate the basketball court, but he was also quite accomplished on the track.  James competed in the long jump, triple jump, 4x400 relay, and 4x100 relay.  During his senior year, his 4x100 relay team was runner-up at the region meet and competed at the state championship meet.  His athleticism and athletic achievements led his high school classmates to vote him Most Athletic during his senior year in high school.    James accepted a scholarship to play basketball at Chattanooga State.  After two successful years there, he was offered the opportunity to transfer to Athens State University in Athens, Alabama.  He played basketball and graduated from Athens State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.  Congratulations Mr. James Johnson Jr.  Hall of Fame class of 2024.  Thank you for your great contributions to Ridgeland High School.
