Jerome Foster
2019 Inductee
It is hard to believe in hindsight that Jerome Foster did not make the varsity basketball team during Ridgeland’s 91-92 season. Instead, he played baseball and spent his time on the freshman basketball squad, providing his coaches with some hints about the prolific scorer he would become. It did not take him long, however, to make his mark in the folklore of Ridgeland High School basketball during his sophomore season of 92-93. Mr. Foster would average 15 points per game, setting a new school singer game scoring record of 32 points during only the season’s second game. During the 93-94 season, Mr. Foster upped his game, increasing his average to 21 points per game and breaking his own single-game record by scoring 38 points. During the grand finale that was his senior year, he again increased his average to 30 points per game, on one occasion scoring 48 points against Gordon Central. He would shatter his previous records and set a new mark of 54 points in a single game versus LFO. Mr. Foster’s talents did not go unnoticed. It was eventually decorated with all-state, all tri-state, and North Georgia Player of the Year honors and entertained offers to play basketball for the likes of UTC, Mercer, and Mississippi State. Alongside other notables like the great Brian Richardson, Mr. Foster can credibly stake his own claim to being perhaps the greatest male basketball player in Ridgeland History. It is my pleasure to induct Mr. Jerome Foster into the Ridgeland Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
